The Safe Riders! Snowmobile Safety Awareness Program has been produced by the International Association of Snowmobile Administrators (IASA) in partnership with the American Council of Snowmobile Associations (ACSA) to further awareness of safe snowmobiling practices. This program was developed with financial assistance from the Recreational Trails Program administered by the U.S. Department of Transportation – Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) and support from the International Snowmobile Manufacturers Association (ISMA).
Who is the IASA? The International Association of Snowmobile
Administrators (IASA), is a self-organized group that originated
in 1974 to facilitate communications among state, provincial and
federal government administrators to promote sound management
of recreational snowmobiling throughout North America, including
but not limited to, snowmobile safety; uniformity of laws, rules
and regulations; international, federal, state, provincial and
territorial cooperation and coordination in snowmobiling concerns;
enforcement of existing laws, rules and regulations; promoting
harmonious relationships with environment/wildlife; and collection,
development and dissemination of information and views on any
subject within the purview of the organization. The IASA meets
annually, in conjunction with the International Snowmobile Congress
(ISC).
Who is the ACSA?
The American Council of Snowmobile Associations (ACSA) is a national
organization that was formed in 1995 to unite the snowmobile community.
Its membership includes 25 state snowmobile associations who represent
over 1000 local snowmobile clubs across the country. Because snowmobiling
is enjoyed by millions of individuals across the United States,
it is imperative that a strong national organization exists to
represent snowmobilers.
ACSA is the voice for snowmobiling on national issues. Many snowmobilers
are mistaken when they think national issues have no impact on
their sport. Across the United States, there are thousands of
miles of snowmobile trails on public and private lands. Will these
lands remain open for snowmobiling in the future? Long-term use
of the lands is no longer certain. Only the unified voice of the
entire snowmobile community will help to guarantee the continuation
of our sport.
ACSA is committed to the future preservation of snowmobiling.
Who is ISMA?
The International Snowmobile Manufacturers Association (ISMA)
is an organization representing the four snowmobile manufacturers.
ISMA functions to provide and encourage policies, programs and
activities to improve the lifestyle activity of snowmobiling throughout
the world.
ISMA maintains strong partnerships with the Canadian Council of
Snowmobile Organizations (CCSO/CCOM) and ACSA.
ISMA coordinates committees within the industry to handle concerns
such as snowmobile safety, the promotion of the lifestyle activity
of snowmobiling, keeping accurate statistics, reporting the growth
of the industry and the positive economic impact the lifestyle
activity has throughout the world.
