Case Study #4 A male operator was traveling alone from a bar to his cabin at approximately 12 AM. He had difficulty keeping his helmet visor clear of frost caused by minus 15 degrees Fahrenheit temperatures. The snowmobile failed to negotiate a curve and collided with a tree, ejecting the operator 30 feet down the trail. The operator did not seek medical attention, but has no recall of what happened from the time of the crash until sunrise when he arrived at his cabin 2 miles away on foot. The collision caused all the branches to be broken from the tree, so he was fortunate to not sustain serious injuries.
Contributing Factors:
Excessive speed
Obstructed visibility
Alcohol (BAC unknown due to delayed reporting, but photo
