Case Study #1 An inexperienced male operator was following an experienced operator at a high rate of speed when he failed to negotiate a corner and struck a tree with his snowmobile. He died from chest trauma. Temperatures were less than 10 degrees Fahrenheit, which caused the snow dust to be heavy. The operator was following too close behind the lead snowmobile whose snow dust obstructed the view of the upcoming curve in the trail.
Contributing Factors:
Following too close
Excessive speed
Operator inexperience
Obstructed visibility
