Speed is also a major factor in many accidents, many of them being at night. Snowmobilers must always, day or night, be aware of the speed at which they are riding, always keeping the speed of the snowmobile slow enough to ensure they are in control of it and operating safely.
Never exceed speed limits that are posted on trails or roadways, including those posted for roadways when you are operating in the borrow ditch of the roadway.
At night, the headlights illuminate your path about 200 feet in front of the snowmobile. Be careful not to over ride the headlights. You must always watch your speed where other motor vehicles operate such as at road crossings, or on open roadways and road right-of-ways. Motor vehicles must always be given plenty of space for the safety of you, your passengers and the motor vehicles.
